Hebrew Word Study

The ancient Hebrew word for "thanksgiving" in Psalm 100:4 is Todah (תּוֹדָה).

Definition: Todah means thanksgiving, praise, an extending of the hands in worship, or a confession of gratitude. In the Old Testament, a Todah offering was a voluntary sacrifice given simply to celebrate God's goodness after He had delivered His people. It wasn't offered because someone had to—it was offered because the heart overflowed with gratitude.

Every time we thank God, we are extending our hands back to the One who first extended His hands of mercy toward us.

When life is heavy and budgets are tight, fear has a way of trying to divide our hearts. We find ourselves with one eye fixed on our problems and the other trying to stay focused on God. Bills pile up, unexpected repairs happen, and even buying groceries, gas, or pet food can become overwhelming. The greatest struggle often isn't what is in our wallet—it is what is happening in our minds.

That is exactly where the enemy wants us to live—in anxiety, discouragement, and fear. But David teaches us something different. In Psalm 9:1 he says, "I will praise You with all my heart." Not half a heart filled with worry and half with faith—but all his heart.

A thankful heart steadies a fearful mind.

When I stop and look back over our lives, I don't just see hardships—I see God's fingerprints everywhere.

He brought us from homelessness to owning our own home.

He brought us from living apart from Him to longing to be in His house several times each week.

He transformed us from sinners who hardly knew Him into people blessed to serve Him as lay leaders.

He has never stopped working.

Has every day been easy? No.

Have we always known how the bills would be paid? No.

Have there been nights when the worry felt overwhelming? Absolutely.

Yet every single time we thought we had reached the end of our resources, God reminded us that we had not reached the end of His.

And one of the greatest ways He has shown His faithfulness has been through His people.

God didn't just provide for us—He transformed us. The journey from homelessness to homeownership, from brokenness to ministry, from surviving to serving, is powerful evidence that God's faithfulness changes lives over time. We pray that our testimony will encourage someone who feels like they're still in the middle of their own impossible season. God isn't finished with you either. Amen! ❤️

Dear Stetson Memorial UMC Family,

There are moments in life when words feel too small to express the depth of the gratitude in our hearts. As we look back over the challenges we have faced, we are overwhelmed by the incredible love, prayers, encouragement, and generosity you have shown us.

Living on a fixed income brings daily challenges that many people never see. It is mentally exhausting trying to stretch so little over so much. Yet every time fear begins to creep in, God reminds us that we are not carrying these burdens alone.

When we went two months without a vehicle because we couldn't afford the repairs, you helped put us back on the road.

When everyday necessities became difficult to afford, your generosity quietly met our needs.

When PTSD and discouragement threatened to overwhelm me, your prayers lifted me up and reminded me that I was never walking alone.

Your kindness has done far more than meet physical needs—it has strengthened our faith. Every act of love has reminded us that God still sees us, still hears our prayers, and still provides exactly what we need, often through His own people.

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 9:15, "Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!" That is how we feel about each of you.

Thank you for listening to God's voice.

Thank you for being His hands and feet.

Thank you for loving us so fiercely.

Thank you for making us feel safe, encouraged, and deeply cared for.

Most of all, thank you for helping us see, over and over again, that God's faithfulness has never failed us. Looking back reminds us to trust Him looking forward.

With all our love and deepest gratitude,

Ross & Penny

Heavenly Father,

Today our hearts overflow with thanksgiving. Thank You for every mountain You have carried us over, every valley You have walked through beside us, and every need You have faithfully supplied. Forgive us for the times we allow fear to become louder than faith. Teach us to remember Your faithfulness whenever our circumstances seem impossible.

Thank You for the family of believers You have placed around us. Thank You for every prayer whispered, every encouraging word spoken, every meal shared, every gift given, every ride offered, every hug, every smile, and every act of kindness. Through them, we have seen Your love made visible.

Lord, help us to live with hearts full of Todah—thanksgiving that praises You before the answer comes because we already know You are faithful. May our testimony encourage others who are struggling today to keep trusting You. You have never failed us, and You never will.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive our trespassers. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.

BELIEVE. OBEY. BE BLESSED.

AMEN.  BOBBA ❤️

Love, Penny 💛
