Power in the Living God

Image
Power in the Living God Scripture Readings (NLT) Mark 12:26-27 "But now, as to whether the dead will be raised—haven't you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' So He is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error." 1 Peter 2:24 "He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed." 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." The Living Hope We often view our mistakes, fears, and past wounds as permanent fixtures in our lives. We allow yesterday's pain to dictate today's strength. Yet today's Scriptures remind us that our God is not a God of stagnation, decay, or death. He is th...

From Hidden Sin to Divine Peace

Image
From Hidden Sin to Divine Peace Scripture Readings Proverbs 28:13 (NLT) "People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy." 2 Peter 3:14 (NLT) "And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in His sight." Proverbs 16:3 (NLT) "Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed." Living in God's Peace Through Confession, Expectation, and Surrender Living a life of purpose requires alignment with God. When our hearts are burdened by hidden sin or weighed down by fear of the future, we lose spiritual momentum. True peace and clear direction come when we walk in honesty before God, trust His promises, and surrender our burdens into His capable hands. 1. Uncover Your Heart "People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receiv...

The Secure Heart

Image
The Secure Heart Scripture Readings Romans 8:1 (NLT) "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:13 (NLT) "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV) "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." The Secure Heart We often begin our days carrying heavy, invisible burdens. We carry guilt from yesterday's mistakes, anxiety about our limitations, and fear of what the future may hold. Left unchecked, these thoughts crowd o...

A Fresh Start with Purpose

A Fresh Start with Purpose Scripture Reading (NLT) Psalm 5:3 "Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." Psalm 143:8 "Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you." Lamentations 3:22-23 "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Psalm 118:24 "This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it." Isaiah 1:17 "Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows." A Fresh Start with Purpose Every single morning brings a profound spiritual reset. Before the noise of the world floods your day, Psalm 5:3 invites you to speak directly to God. What a wonderful privilege it is to tell the Most High God all your joys and sorrows, your needs and ...

Rest for the Weary Soul

Rest for the Weary Soul Scripture Reading “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:29-30 “The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others...” — 1 Peter 4:7-10 Devotional Reflection Life often feels like a constant balancing act between urgent demands and deep exhaustion. In 1 Peter, we are given a wake-up call: be alert, be sober-minded, pray, serve, and love deeply. The words carry weight and responsibility. If we try to live out this calling in our own strength, burnout is almost guaranteed. That is why Peter’s words must be read alongside Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11. Jesus never asked us to carry th...

An Expectant Obedience

An Expectant Obedience “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” — Psalm 5:3 “And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.” — Hebrews 5:9 How we begin our day matters. Before the noise of the world rushes in, before burdens begin pressing against our hearts, there is an invitation to meet with God in quiet surrender.  In Psalm 5, David begins his morning by laying his heart before the Lord. He does not simply throw words into the air hoping someone hears. He prays with expectation. This expectation is rooted in trust. It is the quiet confidence that the Creator of the universe hears our voice before the world ever hears our words. “I lay my requests before You…” The Hebrew word used here is arak (עָרַךְ), which means “to arrange,” “to set in order,” or even “to prepare like a sacrifice upon an altar.” David approaches prayer intentionally. He carefully places his thou...

The Pursuit of Holiness: Becoming Christlike

Image
Matthew 5:48 “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” 1 Peter 1:15–16 “But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.’” Philippians 2:5 “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Romans 12:10 “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” The Pursuit of Holiness: Becoming Christlike When we read Jesus’ words, “Be perfect,” it can feel overwhelming. In our modern understanding, perfection sounds like flawlessness — never failing, never struggling, never making mistakes. If that is the standard, we all fall painfully short. But the Greek word Jesus used in Matthew 5:48 is Teleios (τέλειος). Teleios does not mean flawless performance. It means mature, complete, fully developed, or growing into the purpose for which something was created. Jesus is not demanding instant perfection. He is inviting us into lifelong...
