The Door No One Can Shut
The Door No One Can Shut
Scriptures (NLT)
Psalm 55:22
“Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.”
Ephesians 3:12
“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.”
Psalm 121:5
“The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.”
Revelation 3:8
“I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.”
In our journey of faith, there are seasons when the path ahead seems blocked and the weight of responsibility feels almost too heavy to carry. Yet today’s Scriptures remind me that God is not only the One who carries my burdens, but also the One who protects my life and opens doors that no one can shut.
Psalm 55:22 begins with a beautiful invitation: “Give your burdens to the Lord.” The Hebrew word used for burden is yehab, meaning “that which is given to you” or “your lot in life.” Sometimes I feel guilty for struggling beneath the weight of my circumstances, but this verse reminds me that these are the very things God expects me to place into His hands.
When I cast those burdens on Him, He promises to sustain me. The Hebrew word for sustain means to hold together, support, and keep from collapsing. God does not always remove the storm immediately, but He becomes the strength that carries me through it. He holds me together when life feels as if it is falling apart.
Ephesians 3:12 reminds me that because of Jesus, I can approach God with freedom and confidence. The Greek word parrēsia means boldness and freedom in speaking. Through Christ, I do not have to hide my fears, polish my words, or pretend I am stronger than I am. I can come honestly before my Heavenly Father and tell Him exactly what is on my heart.
Psalm 121:5 paints such a comforting picture: “The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.” In biblical times, shade was not merely comfort; it was protection and survival in harsh heat. God’s protection is not distant. It stays close beside me like a shadow that never leaves.
Then Revelation 3:8 declares a promise that fills me with hope: “I have opened a door for you that no one can close.” The Greek word anoigō means a door swung wide open for entrance. God spoke these words to people with “little strength.” That encourages me deeply because I do not need to be powerful or perfect for God to work in my life. I only need faith enough to walk forward through the doors He opens.
Today we live in a world filled with locked doors. Schools, hospitals, police stations, nursing homes, and even churches often require codes, buzzers, cameras, and security systems. When I was a child, parents could simply walk into a school building and visit their child’s classroom. Now every entrance is monitored carefully because people fear violence and danger.
Homes are locked tight with alarms and cameras. People watch the news searching for warnings about the next disaster. Many live in constant fear — fear of war, fear of illness, fear of financial collapse, fear of addiction, fear of violence, fear of losing family, jobs, or stability.
Yet when I step back and think about it, humanity has always lived with danger. The people of the first century faced disease, famine, persecution, and daily uncertainty far beyond what most of us experience today. Fear itself is not new. But Jesus never called us to live imprisoned by fear.
Christ called us to love one another.
He taught us to help our neighbors, feed the hungry, comfort the hurting, and walk together as the family of God. The answer to fear is not isolation. The answer is faith working through love.
I see that love alive in our church and our community. We are not alone. We have our Triune God, and we have brothers and sisters in Christ who step forward to help one another. Imagine what this world would look like if all 2.3 billion Christians fully lived the way Jesus instructed us to live. So many hurting people would find hope, food, shelter, encouragement, and love.
I try to help where I can — giving rides, helping with errands, taking people to doctor appointments, bringing folks to church and children’s ministry, and supporting our local food cupboard. These small acts matter because they reflect the heart of Christ.
When our jeep stopped “jeeping,” we suddenly could not help people the way we normally do. What surprised me most was that people noticed. Not only those we had helped in the past, but others in the community as well.
Yesterday, I was finally able to order the parts needed to hopefully get Tiffany the Tiger back out prowling again. It took the kindness and efforts of three different people coming together to make that happen. One person even said, “I want to see you back out there helping folks!”
That touched my heart deeply because it reminded me how God moves. Sometimes He moves mountains. Sometimes He moves through the loving hearts of His people.
That is the body of Christ.
That is the open door.
That is faith in action.
And hopefully soon, instead of walking simply to pick up bread at the store, we will once again be walking for health, joy, and ministry opportunities along the way.
Amen.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the One who carries my burdens and sustains me when I feel weak. Thank You for standing beside me as my protective shade and for opening doors that no one can shut. Help me to live with faith instead of fear. Teach me to love others the way Jesus taught us to love. Let my hands be willing to serve, my heart be quick to help, and my spirit remain humble before You.
Thank You for the people You place in our lives who encourage us, support us, and remind us that we are never alone. Bless those who give generously, love deeply, and serve faithfully. Continue to guide our steps and use us to bring hope to others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
