Held Fast Through Every Storm
Held Fast Through Every Storm
Nehemiah 1:8–9
“If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to Me and obey My commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen for My Name to dwell.”
Acts 1:3
“After His suffering, He presented Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive.”
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Anchored in God
There are seasons in life when everything feels unstable.
Dreams crack. Plans collapse. Relationships strain and sometimes fall apart. Bodies grow weary. Hearts carry silent burdens. We smile for others while inwardly asking, “Lord, how am I going to make it through this?”
I find that between praying, Bible readings, writing these devotions and helping others in my community, my mind no longer hyper focuses on things I cannot change. Amen.
The ancient Hebrews understood this feeling deeply. In Nehemiah’s prayer, the people of Israel had been scattered, broken, and displaced because of their own failures and the harsh realities surrounding them. Yet Nehemiah clung to one truth: God had not forgotten them. This is what we have to stand on. God has not forgotten us.
The Hebrew word used for “gather” in Nehemiah 1:9 is קָבַץ (qavats) — meaning to collect, assemble, recover, or bring back together what has been scattered.
That is who God is.
He is still the God who gathers shattered pieces.
He gathers weary hearts.
He gathers broken families.
He gathers wandering souls.
He gathers people who thought they had drifted too far away.
Sometimes life leaves us feeling scattered emotionally, spiritually, financially, physically and sometimes all at the same time!
But God specializes in restoration. The enemy scatters; God gathers.
And then we come to Acts.
After the crucifixion, the disciples were devastated. The One they had followed was dead—or so they thought. Fear anchored them behind locked doors. But Acts says Jesus appeared to them with “many convincing proofs.”
The Greek word for “proofs” is τεκμήριον (tekmērion) — meaning certain evidence, undeniable proof, trustworthy demonstration.
Jesus did not rise symbolically.
He rose physically.
Historically.
Powerfully.
The scars remained in His hands, but death no longer had authority over Him.
That changes everything.
Because if Jesus conquered death, then your storm is not the end of your story either.
A sailor once told the story of surviving a violent storm off the coast of Maine. The waves crashed with terrifying force against the small fishing vessel. Visibility disappeared. Every instinct screamed panic. But the old captain calmly shouted one command above the wind:
“Drop the anchor deep!”
The younger men feared the anchor would not hold against the force of the sea, but the captain trusted what they could not yet see beneath the surface. The anchor caught solid rock below the raging water, and through the long dark night, the boat held firm.
By morning, the storm had passed.
The sea was still rough, but the vessel remained exactly where it needed to be because it had been anchored beneath the chaos.
That is the Christian life. Our lives.
We are not anchored to feelings.
We are not anchored to circumstances.
We are not anchored to politics, finances, health reports, or human strength.
We are anchored to Christ.
The storms may rage above you, but beneath you stands the unshakable Rock of Ages.
That is why Paul could write from prison:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
The Greek word for “strengthens” is ἐνδυναμόω (endynamoō) — meaning to infuse with inward strength, to empower from within.
Paul was not claiming limitless human achievement. He was declaring supernatural endurance. Christ gives strength not merely to survive, but to remain faithful in every season.
Sometimes God calms the storm.
Sometimes He calms His child while the storm still rages.
Either way, His grace holds.
So when your life feels uncertain, remember:
God gathers what feels scattered.
Jesus proves He is alive.
The Holy Spirit supplies strength beyond your own.
And the anchor still holds.
Even now.
Especially now.
Tune out the politicians, instead ask God who to vote for.
Stop watching the news and spend that time praying for our world.
We make a difference when we in unity pray for others. We make a difference when we pray alone. Because prayer works. Sometimes we get clear answers, sometimes we dont get the answer we want. Sometimes we gain strength to weather the storm. Amen.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God who gathers me when life feels scattered and uncertain. Thank You for never abandoning me in my weakness, fear, or failure. Lord, there are moments when the winds of life feel stronger than my faith, but today I choose to anchor myself in You.
Jesus, thank You for the undeniable proof of Your resurrection. Because You live, my hope lives also. Remind me daily that no storm is greater than Your power and no valley is deeper than Your love.
Holy Spirit, strengthen me from within. When I grow weary, breathe fresh courage into my soul. Help me trust You when I cannot see the way forward. Teach me to stand firm on the Rock that cannot be shaken.
Gather the broken places in my life and rebuild what has been torn down. Use every hardship to draw me closer to Your heart. Let my life point others toward the peace, hope, and salvation found only in Christ.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED, AMEN.

God’s promises are stronger than your fears.
Christ’s resurrection is stronger than your failures.
The Spirit within you is stronger than the storm around you.
Hold fast.
The anchor still holds.
Love, Penny 💛
