The Everlasting Rock: Eternal Security

Job 19:25

“But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.”

Hebrews 7:25

“Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

Psalm 30:5

“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.”

Matthew 5:14

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.”

Isaiah 26:4

“Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.”

Matthew 6:26

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

The Everlasting Rock:  Eternal Security

This collection of scriptures forms a powerful narrative of God’s character: He is our Redeemer, our Intercessor, our Joy, our Rock, and our Light.

1. The Living Redeemer (Job 19:25)

Job cries out, "For I know that my Redeemer lives."

The Hebrew word for Redeemer here is Go’el. In ancient Israel, a Go’el was a "kinsman-redeemer"—a relative who stepped in to pay a debt, provide protection, or restore what was lost. Even in the depths of suffering, Job knew he was not an orphan; he had a divine Kinsman who would have the final word "at the last" (acharon).

2. The Constant Intercessor (Hebrews 7:25)

Moving to the New Testament, we see how our Redeemer operates today. Jesus is able to save "to the uttermost" (panteles in Greek, meaning completely and for all time) because He lives to make intercession for us.

The Greek word entygchanein describes more than just a prayer; it refers to a formal petition or a meeting on someone else's behalf. While we struggle, Jesus is actively advocating for us before the Father, bridging the gap between our weakness and God’s holiness.

3. The Shift from Night to Light (Psalm 30:5 & Matthew 5:14)

Life often brings seasons of "weeping" (bekhi in Hebrew), but the Psalmist promises that favor (ratzon—meaning delight or goodwill) lasts a lifetime. Joy doesn’t just happen; it arrives in the morning.

Because of this joy, Jesus calls us the light (phōs) of the world in Matthew 5:14. Just as a city on a hill cannot be hidden, a believer who has been redeemed and interceded for becomes a beacon. Our "light" is not our own; it is the reflected glory of the Redeemer who lives within us.

4. The Everlasting Foundation (Isaiah 26:4)

How do we sustain this light? By trusting in the Everlasting Rock.

The Hebrew phrase is Tzur Olamim. Tzur means a massive cliff or boulder—something unmovable. Olamim refers to ages, eternity, or the world. When the world feels like shifting sand, God is our "Rock of Ages." He is the stable ground that allows us to shine even when the storm is howling.

Today, take a moment to breathe in the reality of the Go’el (Redeemer). Whatever debt or sorrow you carry, your Kinsman-Redeemer is alive. He is currently entygchanein (interceding) for you. You don't have to be the source of your own strength; you simply need to stand on the Tzur Olamim (Everlasting Rock) and let His light shine through you.

My Life Held by the Everlasting Rock

Humans are pretty silly, aren’t we? Even when we know the truth—when we’ve seen God move, felt His presence, and experienced His faithfulness—we still waver.

I know I have.

Myself personally, I have seen the actions of and been in the presence of our Triune God. The very first miracle in my life… is my life.

I was born into what could have been an impossible situation. My mom was O-negative, and my dad was A-positive. Back then, before treatments were widely available, that combination could be very dangerous for a second pregnancy. My parents had already experienced the heartbreaking loss of my brother as an infant—a grief no parent ever truly recovers from.

So when my mom became pregnant with me, she carried both hope and fear.

But she also carried prayer.

Just like Hannah cried out to God with deep longing, my mother cried out—and God heard her. I became, in her eyes, a miracle. After me, there were more losses, more miscarriages… which only confirmed in her heart that my life was a gift straight from God’s hand.

But even miracle babies grow up.

I was raised to work hard, to push forward, to make things happen. And like many of us, I often chose my own way. I pushed ahead, made my own decisions, and didn’t always acknowledge God in the process.

Yet even then… He was there.

Guiding. Protecting. Strengthening.

Even when I didn’t see Him, He never left me.

Now, as someone fully devoted to our Triune God, I look back and see His fingerprints everywhere. Moments where I thought I was just “getting through” were actually moments where He was carrying me.

And something has changed in me over these past years.

I don’t feel that constant urge to rush anymore. I don’t feel like I have to force life forward. There is peace in slowing down… in waiting on God… in trusting Him to lead instead of striving to control.

Because I finally understand something deep in my soul:

I am a child of the Most High God.

And He loves me.

And He has a purpose for me.

So now, my goal is simple—to stay in tune with Him. To follow His lead. To trust His timing.

Like the sparrow Jesus spoke of, I don’t want to be consumed with worry over all the things that could overwhelm me.

And there are many.

I have unsaved loved ones I carry in prayer.

I see people hurting and struggling all around me.

My finances are not where I want them to be. Bills pile up. Needs feel heavy.

Even practical things—like a vehicle needing repairs—can feel like mountains.

But instead of letting worry take root, I choose to pray.

I speak the name of Jesus over my loved ones.

I lift my needs before Him.

I trust Him with what I cannot fix on my own.

And even in the middle of real-life struggles, I hold onto hope—because the same God who carried me from the very beginning is still carrying me now.

I am trusting Him as I step into what He has placed before me, including the calling to share my story—from suffering, to salvation, to service.

And no matter what comes, one thing is settled in my heart:

I will spend the rest of my days serving God and loving His people in any way I can.

Because He has been that faithful.

Because He is my Rock.

Prayer

Abba Father God,

Thank You for being my Everlasting Rock—the One who has held me from the very beginning of my life until now. Thank You for every unseen moment where You protected me, every quiet place where You strengthened me, and every prayer You heard even before I understood who You were.

Lord, forgive me for the times I have wavered, for the times I pushed ahead without seeking You. Thank You for never leaving me, even then.

Jesus, thank You for interceding for me continually. When I don’t have the strength or the words, You are already standing in the gap.

Teach me to trust You more. Help me to release my worries—my finances, my loved ones, my future—into Your hands. Remind me that if You care for the sparrows, You surely care for me.

Guide my steps as I walk in the purpose You’ve given me. Let my life be a light that reflects You.

I choose today to stand on You, my Rock, and not be shaken.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer (KJV)

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

BELIEVE • OBEY • BE BLESSED • AMEN
