The Deepest Hunger, The Eternal Fullness
The Deepest Hunger, The Eternal Fullness
Scripture Foundations (NLT)
Matthew 5:6
“God blesses those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.”
John 6:30–35
“They answered, ‘Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, “Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.”’
Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’
‘Sir,’ they said, ‘give us that bread every day.’
Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
1 Corinthians 15:20–22
“But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.”
Ephesians 1:18–21
“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.”
The Deepest Hunger, The Eternal Fullness
Have you ever felt a longing that food, success, or even love from others just couldn’t quite reach? A quiet ache that lingers even on good days?
That feeling isn’t a flaw—it’s a signal.
Many call it a “God-shaped space” within us. It’s the place in our soul designed specifically for God’s presence. Nothing else truly fits there. We try—achievement, approval, distractions—but those things are like snacks when what we need is a feast. They may numb the hunger for a moment, but they never satisfy it.
That deep hunger is not meant to be ignored. It’s meant to lead us home.
The Hunger for Rightness
In Matthew 5:6, Jesus says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.”
The word dikaiosynē speaks of more than behavior—it means being made right, restored, aligned with God.
We don’t just crave success—we crave rightness.
We long for peace in our hearts, healing in our relationships, and closeness with God.
And Jesus makes a bold promise:
If you hunger for this, you will be filled.
Not temporarily. Not partially. Fully.
The Bread That Fills the God Space
In John 6, the crowd was focused on physical bread—on what God could give.
But Jesus shifted their attention to who He is.
“I am the bread of life.”
The Hebrew word lechem is daily bread—what sustains the body.
But Jesus is more than provision—He is presence.
He doesn’t just fill your hands.
He fills your heart.
That empty place inside you?
It was never meant to be filled with things—it was meant to be filled with Him.
The Assurance of Fulfillment
Sometimes we still feel the tension:
“If Jesus satisfies, why do I still feel hungry at times?”
Because we are living between promise and fulfillment.
1 Corinthians 15:20 reminds us that Christ is the firstfruits (aparchē)—the beginning of a harvest that is still coming. His resurrection guarantees that one day, everything we hunger for—peace, justice, wholeness—will be fully complete.
What we taste now is real…
but it’s not the whole feast yet.
Eyes Open to What Already Lives in You
Paul prays in Ephesians that the eyes of our hearts would be opened.
Why? Because many of us are spiritually hungry not because God is absent—but because we are unaware.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is already at work in you.
The Greek word hyperballō means surpassing, beyond measure, overwhelming.
God’s power toward you isn’t small—it’s abundant and overflowing.
When your spiritual eyes open, you begin to realize:
You’re not empty… you’ve just been looking in the wrong place.
Reflect
Where have you been trying to satisfy your soul with things that were never meant to fill it?
Today, bring that hunger honestly to Jesus.
Don’t hide it. Don’t numb it.
Let it lead you straight to the only One who can satisfy it completely.
Prayer
Abba Father,
You see the places in me that feel empty, restless, and searching.
Forgive me for trying to fill those spaces with things that cannot last.
Thank You for creating me with a hunger that leads me back to You.
Jesus, You are the Bread of Life. Fill me today—not just with answers, but with Your presence. Restore what is out of alignment in my heart. Help me to hunger for righteousness more than anything this world offers.
Holy Spirit, open the eyes of my heart. Help me see the power, hope, and inheritance I already have in You. Teach me to rest in Your fullness instead of striving in my emptiness.
I receive Your peace, Your presence, and Your provision today.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer (KJV)
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
