The Unmovable Love of God
The Unmovable Love of God
Romans 5:8-11
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.
10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Romans 8:38-39
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 4:7-21
7 Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.
10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
13 And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.
14 Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
15 All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.
16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.
18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
19 We love each other because he loved us first.
20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?
21 And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.
Where does the love of God go?
This was a serious question posted by a friend.
I thought long and hard about answering as often folks are not looking for answers from other silly humans. But I had to give it a try.
Where does the love of God go?
It doesn’t go anywhere.
God’s love is not like ours—rising and falling with emotion, drifting with disappointment, retreating when wounded. His love is constant because He is love.
“God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
God’s love doesn’t travel. It doesn’t fade. It doesn’t relocate when we fail. It remains.
When Adam sinned in the Garden, God’s love did not leave—it clothed him.
When the world turned wicked before the Flood, God’s love did not disappear—it preserved Noah.
When Israel rebelled, God’s love did not abandon—it disciplined and restored.
When we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
God’s love goes:
Into the broken places
Into the dark valleys
Into hospital rooms and lonely nights
Into rebellious hearts
Into graves—and then out again in resurrection power
It went to a cross. It went into a tomb. And it rose.
God’s love does not withdraw when rejected—it pursues. It does not weaken when tested—it endures. It does not die—it conquers death.
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life… nor things present, nor things to come… shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38–39
So where does God’s love go? It goes after you. It goes before you. It surrounds you. It holds you. It waits for you. It carries you home. And even when we walk away—His love stands right where we left it. It doesn’t go anywhere. It remains.
A Testimony of Staying Power
Here’s the beautiful thing: God doesn’t need efficiency. He uses authenticity.
And truly? The most powerful answer to “Where does God’s love go?” is often: “I’ve seen it stay with me.”
Honestly, God’s love was with me as a child before school age being abused. God’s love carried me when my parents failed me as babysitters abused me. God’s love carried me when I became fed up with abuse and learned that anger kept many people at bay. God’s love carried me when I hitchhiked Maine to Maryland at 12 years old.
I can continue for hours. Through our 1st son being stillborn. Through raising kids. Through our marriage. Through the times I was upset with Him (God) and I ignored him for 20 years. Through homelessness. Through now as we age and realize all we really want is to be His hands and feet. Amen!
"His love stands right where we left it".
We often think of "finding God" as if He were the one who was lost, but we are the ones that wander off.
He is the one standing still while we wander.
There is a concept in the Bible called Hesed—it’s the Hebrew word for God's "steadfast love" or "loving-kindness." It isn't just a feeling; it's a covenant commitment. My life is a living map of that Hesed. From the trauma of childhood to the silence of those 20 years, God wasn't just observing; He was preserving. The fact that my heart’s desire now is to be "His hands and feet" is the ultimate proof of Romans 8—that even the "powers of hell" (and the hells we face on earth) couldn't win. His love didn't just stay; it triumphed. God's love sees the us now and the people we will be. He is loving and patient as we figure it out. Amen!
Heavenly Father,
Thank you Abba Father, for your Word that sustains us, for your Holy Spirit that guides us.
Help us to be your hands and feet and reach as many people with your Goodnews as we possibly can!
In Jesus precious name, we Thank you for loving US!
Amen!
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED, AMEN.
