The Strength of a Steadfast Heart
The Strength of a Steadfast Heart
Jeremiah 20:10–13 (NLT)
“I have heard the many rumors about me. They call me ‘The Man Who Lives in Terror.’
They threaten, ‘If you say anything, we will report it.’
Even my old friends are watching me, waiting for a fatal slip.
‘He will trap himself,’ they say, ‘and then we will get our revenge on him.’
But the Lord stands beside me like a great warrior.
Before him my persecutors will stumble. They cannot defeat me.
They will fail and be thoroughly humiliated. Their dishonor will never be forgotten.
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, you test those who are righteous,
and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets.
Let me see your vengeance against them,
for I have committed my cause to you.
Sing to the Lord! Praise the Lord!
For though I was poor and needy, he rescued me from my oppressors.”
Psalm 27 (NLT)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.
The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.
Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me!
My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’
And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’
Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger.
You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
O God of my salvation!
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.
Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.
Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
with every breath they threaten me with violence.
Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”
Romans 15:5 (NLT)
“May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus.”
Isaiah 12:2 (NLT)
“See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid.
The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.”
Philippians 1:29 (NLT)
“For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him.”
The Strength of God’s Steadfast Heart
Sometimes, following God feels like walking through a storm. We hear the “whispering of many” and feel the pressure of opposition, just as Jeremiah did. In those moments, it is easy to let fear dictate our steps or to allow our spirits to grow weary from the friction of the world.
But Jeremiah anchors us in a powerful truth:
“The Lord stands beside me like a great warrior.”
Even when we feel surrounded by critics, trials, or unseen battles, we are never standing alone. God is not distant—He is present, active, and defending. He is the rescuer of the needy, the One who lifts us from the hands of those who seek harm.
Because He is our mighty defender, we can declare with confidence:
“God is my salvation—I will trust and not be afraid.”
Trust is not merely a feeling; it is a decision. It is choosing to lean into His strength when our own strength runs dry.
This journey requires a steadfast mindset—one shaped by Christ Himself. We call on the God who gives endurance and encouragement to form in us the same attitude that Jesus carried: patient, faithful, and unshaken.
And here is the deeper truth—one we do not always expect:
We are not only given the gift to believe in Christ…
we are also given the privilege of suffering for Him. Let me say that again. Although no one enjoys suffering, Jesus certainly did not, it is a tool that God uses to guide us toward a better life, and it gives us a much greater understanding of what others have been through. Therefore we have compassion for those individuals and we have a passion to help them feel Gods true love for them, through us.
This changes everything.
Our struggles are not signs that God has abandoned us. They are invitations to experience Him more deeply. In hardship, we do not lose His presence—we often encounter it more clearly.
So today, let the God of endurance steady your heart.
Let His presence quiet your fears.
Let His strength carry what you cannot.
Lift your voice and praise Him—even in the storm—
because your Dread Champion is standing right beside you.
Word Study & Deeper Insight
I love knowing how this was actually said and what those words mean. Ross once called me an exegesis, I was like an extra Jesus? And he explained that an exegesis is the critical systematic interpretation and explanation of Scriptures with the intention of fully understanding the authors intended meaning.
I like that! So hear are some hebrew and greek words and their explanations to help you and me understand the Bible a little more clearly.
Gibbôr ‘Arîṣ (גִּבּוֹר עָרִיץ) – Jeremiah 20:11
“Dread Champion” / Mighty Warrior
A picture of God as an awe-inspiring, unstoppable warrior—One whose presence causes His enemies to tremble. He is not just protecting you; He is overwhelming what comes against you.
Yeshu’ah (יְשׁוּעָה) – Isaiah 12:2
“Salvation”
Meaning rescue, deliverance, victory. This is the root of the name Jesus—reminding us that God Himself is our salvation.
Hypomonē (ὑπομονή) – Romans 15:5
“Endurance” / Patient Persistence
Not passive waiting, but strong, active perseverance—a Spirit-given strength that holds firm under pressure.
Charizomai (χαρίζομαι) – Philippians 1:29
“Granted” / Freely Given
A grace-gift. Even suffering, in God’s hands, becomes a sacred assignment—trusted to those He loves.
Which area of your life feels like a storm right now?
How does knowing God is your Mighty Warrior change the way you face it today?
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my strength in the storm and my Defender in every battle. When fear rises and voices press in around me, remind my heart that You stand beside me as my Mighty Warrior. Teach me to trust You—not just when life is easy, but especially when it is hard.
Lord, give me endurance when I feel weak, courage when I feel afraid, and faith when I cannot see the way forward. Help me to understand that even my struggles are not wasted, but are held in Your hands and used for Your glory.
Shape my heart to be like Christ—steadfast, patient, and full of love. Let my life be a song of praise, even in the storm.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED. AMEN!
BOBBA
Love, Penny 💛
