Downgrading What is Perfect
Downgrading What is Perfect
Music used to be beautiful sounds played on an instrument with occasional singing to compliment the lovely sounds. Now music sounds are all done by machines and sounds tinny and evokes less feeling, but singing is now a top priority. We downgraded music to lift up self. Taking something perfect and trying to make it as imperfect as we are.
This thought struck me recently, and the more I considered it, the more it seemed to mirror something much deeper about human nature. We have become a "vocal-heavy" generation, drowning out the intricate, divine arrangements of the Creator to make sure our own voices are the loudest thing in the room.
The Original Discord: Pride
Humans often attempt to lower or "downgrade" God—by ignoring His laws, questioning His Word, or minimizing His authority—in order to elevate themselves, their own desires, or their own intellect. This act of self-exaltation is rooted in pride, which the Bible describes as the root of human sin.
Genesis 3:5
“God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
The Fall of Humanity began with this desire to prioritize human judgment over divine command. The serpent’s trick wasn't to deny God’s existence, but to suggest we could "remix" His truth to suit our own palate. We see this same pattern in the fall of Lucifer:
Isaiah 14:12-15
“How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth... For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars... I will be like the Most High.’ Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead.”
The Tinny Sound of Self-Exaltation
When we remove the "Grand Composer" from the center, the music of our lives starts to sound "tinny." It lacks the resonance of eternity because it’s limited to our own small perspective. We suppress the truth that is written in the very stars just to keep our own "performance" going.
Romans 1:18-20
“But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them... Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature.”
Returning to the Right Key: Humility
The biblical remedy is to stop trying to be the lead singer in a song we didn't write. When we downgrade God, we actually downgrade ourselves. It is only by humbling ourselves that we find the true "high notes" God intended for us.
- Matthew 23:12: “But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
- James 4:6: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
- Proverbs 16:18: “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.”
The Call to Harmony
True beauty is found when we stop trying to "improve" on perfection. By submitting to the Great Musician, we move from the tinny, mechanical noise of self-will into the rich, soulful harmony of His grace.
1 Peter 5:6
“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.”
Philippians 2:3
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED, AMEN.
