Divine Symmetry
Divine Symmetry: Life, Death, and God’s Perfect Order
The Bible often reveals God’s truth through symmetry—a divine balance where beginnings and endings mirror one another, chaos is answered with order, and death is never allowed the final word. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture shows us that God works in patterns of restoration, purpose, and promise. What feels sudden or heartbreaking to us is never without meaning to Him.
Redemptive Symmetry: Adam and Christ
The relationship between Adam and Jesus serves as a perfect mirror image of loss and restoration.
1 Corinthians 15:21–22 (NLT)
“So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.”
1 Corinthians 15:45–47 (NLT)
“The Scriptures tell us, ‘The first man, Adam, became a living person.’ But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit. What comes first is the natural body, then the spiritual body comes later. Adam, the first man, was made from the dust of the earth, while Christ, the second man, came from heaven.”
Literary and Poetic Balance
Hebrew poetry uses parallelism to balance length, content, and meaning, reflecting God's orderly nature.
Psalm 18:5 (NLT)
“The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me.”
Judges 3:21 (NLT)
“Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled out the dagger strapped to his right thigh, and plunged it into the king’s belly.”
The Mirror of the Word
James uses the "mirror" analogy to show the reflective relationship between hearing God's word and living it out.
James 1:23–25 (NLT)
“For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
Cosmic Order and Creation
God’s design for the universe is perfectly balanced, stretching from the heavens to the earth.
Isaiah 40:22 (NLT)
“God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him. He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them.”
A Story of Symmetry: The Kitten and Taz
Yesterday, we lived through the mystery of God’s timing. We celebrated a new beginning with the birth of a beautiful new kitten. But as that new life began, an ending drew near. Our sweet cat, Taz, was absolutely fine yesterday—even as late as 11:00 PM, he was acting like his usual self.
By 3:30 AM, everything changed. He was trying to walk but falling; we learned he is in complete kidney failure and is dying.
It is a heart-wrenching reflection of the Prophetic Symmetry found in Scripture. The Bible begins with paradise lost in Genesis and ends with paradise regained in Revelation. Yesterday, we held a new life in one hand and prepared to say goodbye to another. While the transition is sudden for us, it is part of a purposeful design where death is eventually answered by life.
Even in this grief, we look to the Ethical Symmetry of the Spirit to guide our hearts:
Galatians 5:22–23 (NLT)
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Ending Prayer
Lord, we thank You for the gift of Taz and the joy he has brought to our home. We thank You for the miracle of the new kitten born yesterday. Even when life feels chaotic, help us see Your divine symmetry at work. We trust that You hold every beginning and every ending in Your hands. Comfort us as we say goodbye to a loyal friend and give us joy as we care for new life. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED, AMEN.
BOBBA
Love, Penny
