Thirst That Is Truly Satisfied

Thirst That Is Truly Satisfied

John 4:23-30

[23]But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

[24]For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

[25]The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

[26]Then Jesus told her, “i am the Messiah!”

[27]Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but none of them had the nerve to ask, “What do you want with her?” or “Why are you talking to her?”

[28]The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone,

[29]“Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?”

[30]So the people came streaming from the village to see him.

Proverbs 14:27-28

[27]Fear of the lord is a life-giving fountain;

it offers escape from the snares of death.

[28]A growing population is a king’s glory;

a prince without subjects has nothing.

John 4:23–30 | Proverbs 14:27–28

What are you thirsty for today?

In a world constantly offering “drinks” that never truly satisfy—success, approval, comfort, control—Jesus offers something radically different: living water. In John 4, we meet a woman who comes to a well physically thirsty and spiritually empty, yet leaves having encountered the Fountain of Life.

Jesus tells her, “The time is coming—and is now here—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.” True worship is not about a place, a tradition, or a ritual. It is about a heart aligned with God—fully present, honest, and surrendered.

1. The Father Is Seeking Worshipers (John 4:23–24)

Jesus reveals something profound: the Father is actively seeking worshipers. God is not standing at a distance, waiting for us to get everything right. He is looking for hearts that worship Him in spirit (from the inside out) and in truth (rooted in who He truly is).

God is not looking for perfection—He is looking for sincerity. He desires hearts that come as they are and worship Him with honesty, humility, and faith.

2. The Fountain of Life (Proverbs 14:27)

“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.”

To fear the Lord is to live in reverent awe of Him—to trust Him above all else. This kind of worship becomes a fountain, not a trickle. It leads us away from the traps of shame, sin, distraction, and empty pursuits. Just as Jesus promised living water to the Samaritan woman, God offers us a source of life that never runs dry.

3. From Shame to Service (John 4:28–30)

After encountering Jesus, the woman leaves her water jar behind. This small detail carries great meaning. She abandons her old way of seeking satisfaction and runs to tell others about the One who truly knows her—and still loves her.

Her worship overflows into witness. Her personal encounter becomes public testimony. And because of her obedience, an entire village comes to see Jesus.

From Personal Worship to Public Glory

Proverbs 14:28 reminds us, “A growing population is a king’s glory.”

As people encounter Jesus through transformed lives, the Kingdom grows—and the King is glorified. The Samaritan woman’s simple testimony brought many into that growing population. True worship always multiplies.

How Do We Worship Today?

Worship in Truth: Come to God honestly—no masks, no pretending.

Drink from the Fountain: Turn away from temporary fixes and draw daily from God’s presence.

Share the Water: Let your transformed life point others to Jesus.

What “water jars” (temporary fixes) am I clinging to instead of drinking deeply from the Fountain of Life?

Does my worship stay contained, or does it overflow into my everyday relationships?

How can I cultivate a deeper fear of the Lord today that leads me away from discouragement and distraction?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are not distant, but a God who seeks worshipers. Forgive me for the times I have looked to the world to satisfy what only You can fill. Refresh my soul with Your living water. Teach me to worship You in spirit and in truth, and make my life a fountain that draws others to You.

In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom,

And the power, and the glory,

Forever and ever. Amen.

BELIEVE, OBEY, BE BLESSED, AMEN

BOBBA

Love, Penny
